Transfer case seals — replacement (Nissan Terrano 1)

1. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands. Remove the shields and drain the oil from the gearbox.

2. Mark the position of the propeller shaft relative to the transfer case flange, unscrew the bolts and disconnect the propeller shaft (photo).

3. Unscrew the gearbox nut by screwing the bolts into the flange and pressing with a screwdriver.

4. Press the box flange.

5. Pry up and carefully remove the seal (photo).

1. Breather tube; 2. Concealed plug; 3, 8, 10. Seal; 4. Filler cap; 5. Drain plug; 6, 11. Crankcase section; 7. Front cover; 9. Front axle engagement signal sensor



6. Apply universal grease to the seal and press it into the crankcase using a mandrel.

7. Put on the flange, screw in and tighten the gearbox nut to the specified torque.

8. Install the cardan shaft, aligning the marks made during disassembly.

9. The remaining operations are performed in reverse order.
