Checking the heating element
- Set the engine speed to 2000 rpm. Test the heating element with a fully charged battery.
- Turn on the rear window defroster. Using a tester, measure the voltage in the middle of the rear window heating element. The heating element is in good condition if the voltage at this point is about 6 V.
- If the voltage at the central point is about 12 V, then there is an open circuit between the negative terminal and this point.
- By slowly moving the tester contact from this point to the negative terminal of the heating element, you will find the break in the circuit where the voltage drops sharply to 0 V.
- If the voltage at the central point is 0 V, then the open circuit is located in the section from this point to the positive terminal of the heating element.
- By slowly moving the tester contact from the center point to the positive terminal of the heating element, you will find the break in the circuit where the voltage will suddenly increase to 12 V.
Repair the place where the circuit breaks with a conductive varnish or silver paste ("serebryanka").
