The range of petrol four-cylinder in-line engines included three models with a capacity of 1.6 litres (1596 cm³, 97 hp), 2.0 liters (1998 cm³, 126 hp), 2.4 liters (2388 cm³, 105 hp). This generation also has a negative reputation due to criticism that was heard several times on the TV show "Top Gear".
Throughout its production, the C23 model underwent several updates. The interior design and exterior remained largely unchanged. The update can be identified by the radiator grille, which was changed in 1994 and 1997.
