Nissan Pathfinder — compact SUV (1986-1995), midsize SUV (1995-2012) and midsize crossover (since 2012), produced by a Japanese automobile manufacturer "Nissan Motor Co., Ltd." 1986 to present. Sold outside North America under the name "Nissan Terrano". Since 2004, the car has been sold under the name "Pathfinder" worldwide. The engine is located transversely in the front. First generation (WD21, 1986−1995)

The first generation was a two-door SUV body mounted on a ladder frame. The four-door body appeared in October 1989. The length of the car in this body remained the same, and the handles of the rear doors were hidden to appear as often as the trim of the "C" pillar. This technique is still used on all other SUVs of the company. The length of the car was 4366 mm, the width was 1689 mm, the height was 1669-1694 mm. In 1990, there was a facelift, and a 4-door model was introduced. The grille was changed, numerous trim options were available, 1993 models received a third brake light, and 1994 models received a curved instrument panel.

Second generation (R50, 1996−2004)

The third generation was introduced at the end of 1995. The most important innovation was the partial abandonment of the frame and the use of a monocoque body together with the frame. Two-door cars were no longer produced, the body became a 5-door SUV 4529 mm long, 1839 mm wide, 1704 mm high. Since 2000, the length has become 4641 mm, the width is 1821 mm. The drive is full or only on the rear wheels. Assembly was carried out in Japan and Spain. After 2002, the car stopped being sold in Japan, where it was replaced "Nissan Murano", and also cheaper "X-Trail", produced since 2000.

There were two models of petrol engines, both 6-cylinder V-shaped with a volume of 3.3 liters (3275 cm³, VG33E, V6, 168 hp) and 3.5 liters (3498 cm³, VQ35DE, V6, 240 hp)There were three models of diesel engines, all four-cylinder in-line turbocharged 2.7-liter units (2663 cm³, TD27ETi, I4, 128 hp), 3.0 liters (2953 cm³, ZD30DDTi, I4, 170 hp) and 3.2 liters (3153 cm³, QD32ETi, I4, 148 hp). The 1999½ model year saw a facelift. Exterior changes were made to the front and rear, while interior changes were made to the trim. The 2001 model year also saw a minor facelift, which included a new grille, steering wheel, and radio display.

In September 1996, the luxury SUV was introduced "Infiniti QX4", based on "Nissan Pathfinder". In Japan the car was called "Terrano Regulus". This was Infiniti's first attempt to enter the SUV market segment.

Third generation (R51, 2005−2012)

In August 2003, the Dunehawk concept car was unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, which reflected the design of the third generation Pathfinder. In January 2004, the finished 2005 model year car was shown at the North American International Auto Show. It is based on the "Nissan F-Alpha", which returns the car to a frame structure and a non-load-bearing body, which is designed as a 5-door SUV. The length of the car was 4765 mm (since 2008 - 4890 mm), width 1849 mm, height 1852 mm. For the first time, a third row of seats was installed on this car. There were two modifications of petrol engines, both V-shaped. One 6-cylinder with a volume of 4.0 liters (3954 cm³, VQ40DE, V6, 269 hp), the second 8-cylinder with a volume of 5.6 liters (5552 cm³, VK56DE, V8, 310 hp). There were also two modifications of diesel engines, both turbocharged. One four-cylinder in-line engine with a volume of 2.5 liters (2488 cm³, YD25DDTi, I4, 169 hp), the second V-shaped 6-cylinder with a volume of 3.0 liters (2993 cm³, V9X, V6, 228 hp). The gearbox was installed 5- or 7-speed automatic (RE5R05A or RE7R01B), as well as a 6-speed manual (FS6R31A).

For the 2008 model year, the car was updated for the North American markets, which was presented at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2007. The exterior was slightly changed and a 5.6-liter gasoline engine appeared. In March 2010, an update of the car for the European markets was presented at the Geneva Motor Show. The exterior was also slightly changed (new hood, grille and bumpers), the body length has increased significantly and a 3.6-liter turbodiesel has appeared.

Fourth generation (R52, 2013−present)

In October 2012, the fourth generation with the code "R52" went on sale as a 2013 model year. The car is based on the "Nissan D" platform, i.e. a frameless design with a monocoque body. The same platform is used for "Infiniti QX60", "Altima", "Maxima", "Murano" and "Quest". The exterior and interior design became similar to other Nissan cars. The body is made as a 5-door SUV, the dimensions of the car have increased significantly and the car began to be considered a mid-size crossover. The length was 5009 mm, the width was 1961 mm, the height was 1768 mm. The drive was full on all wheels, as well as mono-drive, but not on the rear wheels, but on the front. The trim levels were "S", "SV" and "SL". Assembly was carried out in the USA and Russia.

Petrol engine, six-cylinder V-shaped, 3.5 liters (3498 cm³, VQ35DE, V6, 260 hp)In 2014, a hybrid car with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine appeared for the first time (2488 cm³, QR25DER, I4) and produces 250 hp in tandem with a 15-kilowatt electric motor.
