Checking the appearance and knocking
- Check the driveshaft tube for nicks or cracks. Replace the driveshaft assembly if necessary.
- If the center bearing makes unusual noise or is damaged, replace the driveshaft assembly.
Vibration test
- If vibration is felt when driving at high speed, first check the driveshaft runout.
1. Turn the main transmission connecting flange by hand and measure the runout of the cardan shaft at several points.
Limit.
Cardan shaft runout: See chapter "Power transmission".
2. If the runout still exceeds the specified limit, separate the propeller shaft from the connecting flange of the final drive or transfer case, then reconnect by turning the connecting flange 90, 180 and 270°.
3. Check the runout again. If it still exceeds the specified limit, replace the propeller shaft assembly.
4. Check for vibration by driving the car.
