The cylinder head is cast from a light alloy, the cylinder block is cast iron. The crankshaft is held in five main bearings.
The oil pump is driven by a timing belt from the crankshaft and supplies oil to all rotating parts, the oil first passing through a full-flow cartridge-type filter. The oil cooler, using coolant from the engine cooling system, is attached to the rear of the cylinder block on turbocharged engines and 2.0L models with automatic transmission.
