This Section describes the types of engine repair work performed directly on the vehicle. All repair operations described below assume that the engine is not removed from the vehicle.
The engines are overhead valve, with a chain drive for the camshaft. The chain tension is adjusted with a rubber shoe. The engines have an aluminum alloy cylinder head.
The Z24 engine has 2 spark plugs per cylinder (photo).
The ignition distributor and oil pump are driven by a single helical gear on the crankshaft.
The crankshaft is lubricated under pressure. The camshaft and timing mechanism are lubricated under pressure and by splashing.
