This Part describes the types of engine repair work performed directly on the vehicle. All repairs described below assume that the engine has not been removed from the vehicle.
Engines are overhead valves, with a camshaft drive from a chain. The chain tension is regulated by a rubber shoe. The engines have an aluminum alloy cylinder head.
The Z24 engine has 2 spark plugs per cylinder (photo).
The ignition distributor and oil pump are driven by a single crankshaft helical gear.
The crankshaft is pressure lubricated. The camshaft and timing gear are pressure and splash lubricated.
