Drive shafts — general description (Nissan Bluebird T12)

Power is transmitted from the differential's sun gears to the front wheels by two rigid steel drive shafts of different lengths. Both shafts are connected at their outer ends to the wheel hubs and secured with a large nut. The inner end of each shaft is connected to the transmission's differential. Two constant velocity joints (CV joints) mounted on each shaft provide power transmission at different angles as the wheels move down with the suspension and turn from side to side under the steering.

The outer CV joints are of the Rzeppa-Birfield type. The inner ones are sliding, tripod type.
