Description
- The purpose of this test is to determine the general performance characteristics of the CVT and to analyze the causes of failures.
- The road test consists of the following three parts.
1. Check before starting the engine. See below.
2. Check at idle speed. See below.
3. Test in motion. See below.
- Before performing a road test, familiarize yourself with all procedures and components that need to be checked.
- Test all components until signs of failure are found. Troubleshoot any components that fail the road test.

- CONSULT-III Tester Setup Procedure
- Perform a driving test using the CONSULT-III tester and enter the results into memory.
- Print out the results and ensure that shifts and lockups occur according to the shift schedule.
1. Touch the inscription "DATAMONITOR" on the screen "SELECT DIAG MODE".
2. Touch the inscription "MAIN SIGNALS" and select the mode of entering results into memory.
3. There are three options: "Numerical Display" (digital indication), "Barchart Display" (diagram) or "Une Graph Display" (line graph).
4. Touch the "START" inscription.
5. During the driving test, see the Driving Test section below.
6. Once the driving test is complete, touch "RECORD".
7. Touch the "STORE" inscription.
8. Touch the "BACK" inscription.
9. Touch the "DISPLAY" label.
10. Touch the "PRINT" label.
11. Check how the data being checked was printed.
Check before starting the engine
1. Check the "SPORT" indicator
1. Stop the car on a level surface.
2. Move the selector lever to position "P".
3. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position. Wait at least 5 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position (Do not start the engine).
Does the "SPORT" indicator light come on for approximately 2 seconds?
Yes → 1. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
2. Perform self-diagnosis and check for faulty components.
3. Proceed to "Checking at idle speed" below.
No → Stop road test
Checking at idle speed.
1. Check engine start.
1. Stop the car on a level surface.
2. Move the selector lever to position "P" or "N".
3. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position.
Did the engine start?
Yes → Proceed to step 2.
No → Stop road test.
2. Check engine starting.
In manual mode.
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.

2. Move the selector lever to the "D", "M", or "R" position.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position.
In sport mode.
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.
2. Move the selector lever to the "D" or "R" position.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position.
Did the engine start?
Yes → Stop road test.
No → Go to step 3.
3. Check operation in position "P".
1. Move the selector lever to position "P".
2. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
3. Release the parking brake.
4. Push the car forward or backward.
5. Apply the parking brake.
Does the car move when pushed forward or backward?
Yes → Continue road test.
No → Go to step 4.
4. Check operation in position "N".
1. Start the engine.
2. Move the selector lever to the "N" position.
3. Release the parking brake. Does the car move forward or backward?
Yes → Continue road test.
No → Go to step 5.
5. Check for jolts when shifting gears.
1. Apply the service brake.
2. Move the selector lever to the "R" position.
Is there a strong jolt when shifting from "N" to "R"?
Yes → Continue road test.
No → Go to step 6.
6. Check operation in position "R".
- Release the service brake for a few seconds.
Does the vehicle move backward when the service brake is released?
Yes → Proceed to step 7.
No → Continue road test.
7. Check operation in position "D".
In manual mode.
- Move the selector lever to position "D" and check if the vehicle moves forward.
In sport mode.
Move the selector lever to the "D" and "L" positions and check if the vehicle moves forward.
Does the car move forward in all positions?
Yes → Proceed to "Test on the move" below.
No → Stop road test.
Testing in motion
1. Check the vehicle speed and gear shifting - part 1.
1. Drive the vehicle for approximately 10 minutes and warm up the engine oil and CVT fluid to operating temperature.
Operating temperature of CVT fluid is 50-80°C.
2. Stop the car on a level surface.
3. Move the selector lever to position "P".
4. Start the engine.
5. Move the selector lever to position "D".
6. Accelerate the car by continuously pressing the accelerator pedal until the throttle valve is opened by 2/8.

Using the CONSULT-III tester, read the vehicle speed and engine speed.
Normal or abnormal?
Normal → Proceed to step 2.
Abnormal → Continue road test.
1. Check the vehicle speed and gear shifting - part 2.
1. Stop the car on a level surface.
2. Move the selector lever to position "D".
3. Accelerate the vehicle by continuously pressing the accelerator pedal until the throttle valve is fully open.

Using the CONSULT-III tester.
Calculate the vehicle speed and engine speed.
Normal or abnormal?
Normal → Proceed to step 3.
Abnormal → Continue road test.
3. Check the operation in sport mode - part 1.
1. Stop the car on a level surface.
2. Press the sports mode button.
6. Accelerate the car by continuously pressing the accelerator pedal until the throttle valve is opened by 2/8.

Using the CONSULT-III tester
Calculate the vehicle speed and engine speed.
Normal or abnormal?
Normal → Go to step 4 (sports mode)
Normal → Proceed to step 8 (manual mode)
Abnormal → Continue road test
4. Test the performance in sport mode - part 2.
1. Stop the car on a level surface.
2. Press the sports mode button.
3. Accelerate the car by continuously pressing the accelerator pedal until the throttle valve is fully open.

Using the CONSULT-III tester.
Calculate the vehicle speed and engine speed.
Normal or abnormal?
Normal → Proceed to step 5.
Abnormal → Continue road test.
5. Check operation in "L" position - part 1.
1. Stop the car on a level surface.
2. Move the selector lever to the "L" position.
3. Accelerate the car by continuously pressing the accelerator pedal until the throttle valve opens by 2/8.

Using the CONSULT-III tester.
Calculate the vehicle speed and engine speed.
Normal or abnormal?
Normal → Proceed to step 6.
Abnormal → Continue road test.
6. Check operation in "L" position - part 2.
1. Stop the car on a level surface.
2. Move the selector lever to the "L" position.
3. Accelerate the car by continuously pressing the accelerator pedal until the throttle valve is fully open.

Using the CONSULT-III tester.
Calculate the vehicle speed and engine speed.
Normal or abnormal?
Normal → Proceed to step 7.
Abnormal → Continue road test.
7. Check engine braking.
Does the speed really decrease in the "L" position when engine braking?
Yes → 1. Stop the car.
2 Perform self-diagnosis.
No → Continue road test.
8. Check operation in manual mode.
Switch to manual mode from position "D".
Does it switch to manual mode?
Yes → Proceed to step 9.
No → Continue road test.
9. Check upshifting.
Does the transmission shift up from "M1" → "M2" → "M3" → "M4" → "M5" → "M6" when driving in manual mode?
Using the CONSULT-III tester.
Calculate the transmission range.
Does upshifting occur correctly?
Yes → Proceed to step 10.
No → Continue road test.
10. Check downshifting.
Does downshifting occur from "M6" → "M5" → "M4" → "M3" → "M2" → "M1" when driving in manual mode?
Using the CONSULT-III tester.
Calculate the transmission range.
Is it correct, does it downshift?
Yes → Proceed to step 11.
No → Continue road test.
11. Check engine braking.
Does the speed really decrease in the "M1" position when engine braking?
Yes → 1. Stop the car.
2. Perform self-diagnosis.
No → Continue troubleshooting.
