Doors - checking and adjustment
Doors sometimes make a rattling noise, and in this case, the hinges, locks, or window lift mechanism located in the door are usually to blame.
If the doors and body are not deformed, they should be located in the center of the opening with the same gap around the entire perimeter.
If necessary, make adjustments as follows.
- Note where the door is not positioned correctly to determine which bolts need to be loosened to move the door.
- Loosen the bolts enough to allow the door to be moved with a lever. Move the door in the desired direction and tighten the bolts securely.
When the door is closed, it should be level with the body plane and not move. Closing the door should not require much force - just a small push, and opening the door should not require too much force applied to the lock. The strike plate, screwed to the door post, can move up and down, in and out, and is used to adjust the closing of the door. Trace the plate with a pencil to mark its position, then loosen the screws so the plate can be moved. Move the plate in the desired direction a small amount and retighten the screws. Adjust until desired result is achieved.
Any rattling that may occur inside the door can be eliminated by disassembling it.
Removal and installation the door
- Once the door is open, place a jack underneath it or have an assistant support the door while you remove the hinge bolts. When propping up a door with a jack, place a thick cloth between the door and the jack head to protect the paintwork.
- Pull the lever (1) and disconnect the front door wiring harness plug (3), after first pressing on the safety tabs on the plug (2).
- Remove the sealing grommet (2) and disconnect the rear door wiring harness plug (1).
- Use a scriber or marker to trace around the door hinges so you can then return the door to its original position.
- Loosen the limiting rod mounting bolt (arrow) on the door
- Unscrew the nuts securing the door hinge (arrows in the pictureNM.21.007) and remove the door.
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
- Adjust the door position.
