Maintenance schedule (Nissan Bluebird T12)

Below are the maintenance schedules, service requirements, and intervals at which they should be performed as recommended by the manufacturers. These procedures are described in more detail at the beginning of each Section.

Weekly, or before any long trip

Referring to the appropriate Sections of this Manual, check the engine oil level (Section 1), coolant (Section 2), clutch hydraulic fluid (1.8 and 2.0 liter models only - Section 5), transmission fluid, if any (Section 7), brake fluid (Section 9), power steering fluid, if equipped (Section 10) and flushing liquid (Section 12). Check the tire pressure, the condition of the tire treads (Section 10), check the operation of the windshield wipers and all electrical equipment (Section 12), clean the glass and lenses of all lamps.

Every 5000 km or 6 months

Engine (Section 1)

• Change engine oil - T12 Turbo

Every 7500 km or 6 months

Engine (Section 1)

• Change engine oil and oil filter - T72 Turbo

Every 10,000 km (T12), 15,000 km (T72) or 6 months

Engine (Section 1)

• Change Engine Oil and Oil Filter - All Models

Fuel and exhaust systems (Section 3)

• Check the idle speed and mixture quality
• Check the exhaust system

Ignition system (Section 4)

• Check the ignition timing setting
• Check spark plugs - T12
• Replace spark plugs - T72

Clutch (Section 5)

• Check Clutch Fluid Level - 1.8 and 2.0 Liter Models
• Perform a general check of the clutch system - all models
• Check the clutch operation and adjustment

Manual transmission (Section 6)

• Check for oil leaks
• Check the transmission oil level

Automatic transmission (Section 7)

• Check for transmission fluid leaks
• Check the transmission fluid

Brake system (Section 9)

• Check the brake fluid level, perform a general inspection of the brake system
• Check the operation and adjustment of the brake pedal
• Check the operation and adjustment of the handbrake
• Check the brake pads and discs

Suspension and steering (Section 10)

• Check the condition of the hydraulic lines of the power steering system

Body (Section 11)

• Lubricate door locks and hinges

Every 20,000 km (T12), 30,000 km (T72) or annually

In addition to the steps described above, perform the following tasks:

Engine (Section 1)

• Check the valve clearances
• Cooling system (Section 2)
• Check the condition and adjustment of all drive belts
• Perform a general check of the cooling system

Fuel and exhaust systems (Section 3)

• Check the automatic air filter temperature control system - models with carburetor
• Check the crankcase ventilation system
• Check the engine ventilation hose and vacuum hoses
• Replace fuel filter - T72

Ignition system (Section 4)

• Replace spark plugs - T12

Drive shafts (Section 8)

• Check drive shafts, joints and mounting nuts

Brake system (Section 9)

• Check the brake shoes and drums
• Replace brake fluid - T72

Suspension and steering (Section 10)

• Check the steering gear and rods
• Check the suspension, wheels and tires

Body (Section 11)

• Check the condition of the seat belts
• Check the condition of the paint and protective coating of the bottom

Every 40,000 km (T12), 60,000 km (T72) or 2 years

In addition to the steps described above, perform the following tasks:

Cooling system (Section 2)

• Replace the coolant

Fuel and exhaust systems (Section 3)

• Perform a general check of the fuel system
• Replace the air filter element
• Replace fuel filter - T12
• Replace PCV filter - T72 with carburetor

Ignition system (Chapter4)

• Check the distributor cap and spark plug high voltage wiring

Brake system (Section 9)

• Check the vacuum booster hose, connections and check valve
• Replace brake fluid - T12

Every 100,000 km

In addition to the actions described for maintenance every 20,000 km, perform the following work:

Engine (Section 1)

• Replace the timing belt regardless of its condition

Engine Oil and Filter Replacement - Carburetor Models T12

Intervals shown are for non-genuine filter elements. If a Nissan Premium genuine filter is used, intervals can be increased to 20,000 km after the first 10,000 and 20,000 km of service

Engine Oil and Filter Replacement - Models 172 (except Turbo)

If any filter other than the genuine Nissan Premium is used, change the engine oil and filter every 10,000 km or 6 months.

Transmission Oil/Fluid Change

There is no set interval, but if you frequently tow a trailer or drive on dusty roads, the oil or fluid should be changed every 40,000 km or 2 years on T12 models, or 30,000 km or annually on T72 models.
