When operating the vehicle in very dusty areas, intense urban traffic (frequent short trips), and when frequently towing a trailer, the intervals between routine maintenance procedures should be reduced to a minimum if possible.
Maintenance of a new vehicle, in order to avoid violation of the manufacturer's warranty obligations, must be carried out at the manufacturer's authorized service station.
Every 400 km (250 miles) or once a week (whichever comes first)
- Check the engine oil level (see section Checking fluid levels).
- Check the engine coolant level (see section Checking fluid levels).
- Check the windshield washer fluid level (see section Checking fluid levels).
- Check brake fluid levels (see section Checking fluid levels).
- Check the condition of your tires and their inflation pressure (see section Checking the condition of the tires and their inflation pressure).
Every 4800 km (3000 miles) or every 3 months (whichever comes first)
In addition to the checks listed in the previous subsection:
- Check the PAS fluid level (see section Checking the power steering fluid level).
- Check the ATF level (see section Checking the ATF level of an automatic transmission).
- Replace the engine oil and oil filter (see section Changing engine oil and oil filter).
Every 12,000 km (7,500 miles) or every 6 months (whichever comes first)
In addition to the checks listed in the previous subsection:
- Check the condition of the seat belts (see section Checking the condition of seat belts).
- Check the condition of the windshield wipers and replace them if necessary (see section Checking the condition and replacing the windshield wipers).
- Check the condition of the battery and service it (see section Checking, servicing and charging the battery).
- Check the condition and tension of the drive belts and make appropriate adjustments if necessary (see section Checking the condition, adjusting the tension force and replacing the drive belt).
- Check the condition of all hoses located in the engine compartment and replace them if necessary (see section Checking the condition and replacing the hoses located in the engine compartment).
- Check the proper functioning and condition of the cooling system components (see section Checking the condition of the cooling system components).
- Rotate the wheels (see section Wheel rotation).
Every 24,000 km (15,000 miles) mileage or once every 12 months (whichever comes first)
In addition to the checks listed in the previous subsection:
- Check the condition and proper functioning of the power supply system (see section Checking the condition of the power supply system components).
- Check the correct functioning of the brake system and the condition of its components (see section Checking the brake system).*
- Check the condition of the exhaust system components (see section Checking the condition of the exhaust system components).
- Check the MTF level of the manual transmission (see section Checking the transmission oil level of the manual transmission).
Every 48,000 km (30,000 miles) mileage, or once every 24 months (whichever comes first)
In addition to the checks listed in the previous subsection:
- Replace the air filter (see section Replacing the air cleaner filter element).*
- Replace the fuel filter (see section Replacing the fuel filter).
- Replace spark plugs (for regular type candles) (See Section Checking the condition and replacing spark plugs).
- Check the condition of the spark plug wires, replace if necessary, on 1993 and 1994 models check the condition of the distributor cap and rotor (see section Checking the condition and replacing the spark plug wires, cover and distributor rotor).
- Check the condition of the PCV valve and replace it if necessary (see section Checking and replacing the Crankcase Controlled ventilation (PCV)valve).
- Perform maintenance of the cooling system (draining, flushing and replacing brake fluid) (See Section Cooling system maintenance (emptying, flushing and filling)).
- Replace the ATF AT (see section Replacement of ATF of automatic transmission and main gear).**
- Replace the manual transmission oil (see section Replacing manual transmission oil).**
- Check the condition of the suspension and steering components, as well as the protective boots of the CV joints of the drive shafts (see section Checking the condition of the suspension and steering components).
Every 96,000 km (60,000 miles) mileage or once every 48 months (whichever comes first)
- Check the valve clearances and make adjustments if necessary (on models produced since 1995 only if the noise level of the valve mechanism increases) (See Chapter Engine).
- Check the condition and proper functioning of the EGR valve (see section Checking the condition of the EGR valve).
- Replace spark plugs (for platinum spark plugs) (See Section Checking the condition and replacing spark plugs).
- Check the condition/replace the timing belt - 1993 and 1994 models (see Chapter Engine).
* When operating the vehicle under severe conditions, perform all procedures marked with an asterisk every 4800 km (3000 miles) or every 3 months (whichever comes first).
Note: The following operating conditions are considered stressful:
- - The area is very dusty;
- - Towing a trailer;
- - Long-term engine idling/low-speed driving;
- - Low ambient temperatures (below 0°C) combined with short journeys (less than 6 km [4 miles]).
** When operating the vehicle in any of the conditions listed below, the procedures marked with two asterisks must be performed every 24,000 km (15,000 miles) mileage:
- Heavy urban cycle with high ambient temperatures (over 32°C);
- Driving in hilly or mountainous terrain;
- Frequent towing of a trailer.
