Note: The drive belt arrangement for the water pump, alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor varies according to model - see Figures 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7. The water pump and alternator or power steering pump are driven by a single belt, depending on model.
Adjustment
1. First check the belt along its entire length, cleaning off any dirt. Replace the belt if there are cracks, tears or other damage.
2. To check the belt tension, apply a force of 98N to the locations indicated in Figure 2.5, 2.6 or 2.7 and accurately measure the belt deflection at that point.

3. If the measured deviation is greater than the specified limit, tighten the belt as described below until the deviation is reduced to the specified adjustment range. If a new belt is installed, note that in some cases a higher tension is used for initial adjustment.
Generator drive belt
4. To adjust the alternator drive belt, loosen both pivot bolts under the alternator, loosen the adjuster lock bolt, tighten (or loosen if necessary) adjuster nut or bolt. Tighten the bolts after installation.
Power steering pump drive belt
5. To adjust the power steering pump drive belt, loosen the pivot bolt under the pump, loosen the adjuster lock bolt, tighten (or loosen if necessary) regulator nut (photo). Then tighten the bolts.

Air Conditioning Compressor Drive Belt
6. To adjust the air conditioning compressor drive belt, loosen the pulley lock nut, tighten (or loosen if necessary) adjuster bolt which is located under the idler gear assembly. After adjustment, tighten the lock nut to the tightening torque specified in the Specifications.
Removal and installation
Note: In some cases, it is necessary to remove another drive belt before the desired belt can be removed. For example, to remove the power steering pump drive belt, the alternator belt must first be removed (or air conditioning compressor).
7. To remove the alternator or power steering pump belt, loosen the alternator pivot bolt, loosen the governor lock bolt, and remove the governor nut or bolt. Rotate the alternator or pump toward the engine and remove the belt from the pulleys.
8. To remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt, loosen the lock nut and adjuster bolt and remove the belt from the pulleys.
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Adjust the belt tension as described above.
