2. Disconnect the hose from the vacuum regulator and plug it (photo).
3.2. Disconnecting the distributor vacuum hose
3. Disconnect the ground wire at the ignition distributor.
4. Mark the position of the cover to the distributor housing, unscrew the two screws and remove the distributor cover.
5. The distributor rotor cam should point toward the spark plug wire contact for cylinder #1 on the distributor cover. If necessary, mark the rotor position to the distributor housing.
6. Using a scriber, mark the position of the distributor housing on the cylinder head. Disconnect the wires from the distributor.
7. Unscrew the ignition distributor (photo) and remove it. Do not disturb the crankshaft installation or rotate the distributor shaft until it is installed in place.
3.7. Unscrewing the distributor mounting bolt
8. Before installation, check that cylinder #1 is at TDC on the compression stroke; see above.
9. Install the distributor on the cylinder head. Slightly turn the distributor runner so that the distributor drive cheeks enter the grooves in the camshaft mounting plate (photo). Install the distributor mounting bolts.
3.9A. The distributor clutch drive cheeks are offset...
3.9V... to include in the slots (marked with arrows) in the camshaft plate
10. The distributor drive coupling clamps are offset so that they fit into the camshaft grooves in only one position.
11. Install the distributor cover, connect the wiring to the ignition distributor and the ground wire.
12. Check and, if necessary, adjust the ignition timing. Connect the vacuum hose.
13. If a new ignition distributor is installed (or alignment marks were not made during removal) the following procedure must be performed.
14. Set cylinder #1 to TDC on compression stroke, turn the engine slightly counterclockwise until the mark on the timing belt cover aligns with the corresponding mark on the crankshaft pulley (see Specifications) that is, so that the engine is at the moment of ignition.
15. Turn the distributor rotor to the spark plug contact of cylinder No.1 on the distributor cover, place it, aligning the two nearest projections of the impulse generator with the stator blades (photo).
3.15. The impulse generator projections are aligned at the ignition moment (marked with arrows)
16. Bring the rotor as close as possible to the distributor housing, on the installed distributor (see points above).
