The electric drive control switch is equipped with a selector unit that enables selection of the direction of voltage supply (on the right or left mirror). Without starting the engine, turn the ignition key to the ON position, lower the door windows and test all operating modes of the electric drive of both side mirrors.
Listen carefully to the sounds made by the electric motors that drive the mirrors.
If the motor sounds fine but the mirror does not move, there may be a defect in the drive mechanism inside the mirror. Remove the mirror in question and disassemble it to find the cause of the failure.
If the mirrors do not function and their drive motors do not make any sounds, check the condition of the corresponding fuse (see Chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
If the fuse is OK, remove the power mirror control switch from its support (do not disconnect the electrical wiring). Turn on the ignition and check the power supply to the switch. Voltage should be present at one of the terminals of the switch connector, otherwise check the condition of the connecting wiring in the area between the switch and the fuse box.
If the power supply is correct, disconnect the wiring and check the correct conductivity distribution between the switch terminals in its various positions (see section Checking the proper functioning and replacing the instrument panel switches). Replace the faulty switch.
Reconnect the original wiring and locate the switch assembly ground wire. Duplicate the ground with a jumper wire. If the motor now operates, the assembly ground should be restored to ground.
If the ground is OK and the drive still does not work, remove the mirror assembly and check that the power supply to it is working properly. Turn on the ignition and move the control assembly selector switch to the appropriate mirror adjustment. When moving the mirror position adjustment key to any of the working positions, voltage should be supplied to the mirror drive.
If any power supply problems are detected, check the condition of the electrical wiring between the switch and the drive.
If the voltage is supplied correctly, remove the mirror and check the correct operation of the drive by directly powering it from the battery. Replace the faulty mirror.
