Locate the cruise control fuse and check its condition (see section Fuses and fuse links - general information).
Ask an assistant to press the foot brake pedal several times - the brake light switch sensor, which reacts to pressing the pedal, should turn off the cruise control.
If the brake lights do not respond to pressing the pedal, find out the reason for the failure and repeat the check of the correct functioning of the cruise control.

Visually assess the condition of the drive cable running from the servo/crankshaft booster assembly to the throttle linkage. Replace a damaged or worn cable. If necessary, adjust the cable in the same way as adjusting the throttle cable (see Chapter Power and exhaust systems).
The operation of the tempostat is based on monitoring the signals from the vehicle speed sensor. The speed sensor is located in the transmission, a description of how to check its proper functioning is given in Chapter Engine management systems of this Guide.
A description of the procedure for checking the main (On/Off) switch of the cruise control is given in Section Checking the proper functioning and replacing the instrument panel switches.
The cruise control switch is located on the vehicle's steering wheel.
To check the switch, refer to the materials in Section Checking the proper functioning and replacing the steering column switches. Replace the faulty assembly.
Note: Before you start checking the cruise control, make sure that the horn, through the relay of which power is supplied to the system, is functioning properly.
Carry out road tests of the vehicle. If the malfunction of the cruise control system cannot be eliminated by the corrections made, take the vehicle to a service station for a more detailed diagnostic of the system using special equipment.
