The complete set of the cars considered in this Guide includes a large number of on-board consumers of electricity. In order to reduce the amount of connecting wiring, it is possible to switch consumer control signals.
The switching system includes an onboard control module (VSM), located under the front of the floor console, and five local control units scattered throughout the vehicle (LCU). System components are interconnected by two buses (A and B).
Some of the consumers are connected directly to the VSM, others are closed to local units, which control the on-off equipment. Consumers controlled by the system include power windows, a single lock, interior lighting, warning lamp, anti-theft alarm, etc.
The BCM also performs the function of self-diagnosis of the system, in case of failure of which the car should be driven away to read fault codes to a branded service station.
