Signaling devices designed to notify about vehicle maneuvers include direction indicators, brake lights, sound and light signals.
Checking direction indicators and hazard warning lights
The turn signal circuit includes the turn signal relay, switch, and turn signal lamps.
If the turn signals do not work, perform the following checks:
- Check if the fuses are blown.
- Check the integrity of all wires and connections.
- Check the switch mechanism.
If the turn signal lamps flash too quickly, this indicates that the turn signal lamp is faulty or the lamp is not making reliable contact.
If the blinking rhythm is not regular (differs from the required rhythm - 90 blinks per minute), then check whether the turn signal bulbs have the correct power.
If the pumps, switch and wires are in order, then the turn signal relay itself may be faulty.
Actions to take if the turn signal relay fails (not all models)
- Remove the relay from the mounting block.
- Install a jumper between the corresponding terminals. To do this, insert a short piece of wire into the contacts of the relay plug.
- Put the relay back in.
- When the turn signal lever is pressed, the turn signal lamps on the corresponding side will remain on continuously.
- Flashing can be simulated by turning the turn signal lever on and off.
Checking the brake light
The operation of the brake light can be checked with the help of an assistant standing behind the vehicle. If you don't have an assistant, you can park the car behind a light wall, preferably at night, and press the brake pedal.
The mechanical brake light switch is located on the pedal support at the top of the driver's footwell. When the brake pedal is pressed, the push pin extends out of the switch. The switch contacts close and with them the brake signal circuit. If both brake lights do not work, you need to check if the problem lies in the brake light switch.
Checking the brake light switch
- Remove the plug.
- Jumper the wire connections in the plug using a piece of wire or a paper clip.
- If the brake lights come on, the fault is in the brake light switch.
Checking the sound signal
When the ignition is on and the horn button on the steering wheel is pressed, a "single" or two-tone horn sounds. Models with a two-tone sound signal use a relay to maintain the signal contacts. In both versions, when the ignition is on, voltage is supplied to one or two signals from the terminal. In order for the signal to sound, it is necessary to provide a connection to ground through a signal contact or relay. The inclusion can be clarified in more detail using the electrical equipment diagrams.
- After disconnecting the plug, remove the signal.
- Connect a piece of wire to both contacts and connect them to the positive and negative contacts of the battery.
- If the signal does not sound, the signal is faulty.
- A hoarse or dull sound can be corrected by turning the adjustment screw on the back of the horn. The screw is located under the resinous mass.
- After adjustment, seal the screw again with waterproofing compound, protecting it from moisture.
Note: To set up additional sound signals, you must use auxiliary relays, otherwise the main contact will be overloaded and the signals will not sound at full volume. The signal set is sold together with the relay.
