Ignition system — general information (Nissan Terrano 1)

The ignition system of the cars in question consists of a distributor with a crankshaft rotation sensor, a coil, spark plugs, wires and an electronic switch. The ignition timing is controlled by a processor unit, which receives pulses from the crankshaft rotation sensor (description of the sensor see in Chapter 4). The pulses are generated by a converter based on an optical pair (lED photodiode) and the shaper. The interruption of the LED radiation is provided by a rotor with a slot structure. The ignition timing pulses are formed by the rotor slots located along the inner circumference, which determine the angular displacement of the crankshaft (within 1 revolution).
