2. Secure the partition in the crankcase with bolts (photo).
20.2. Crankcase ventilation baffle
3. Wipe the bearing seats in the crankcase, install the bearings with lubrication grooves (photo).
20.3. The central main bearing has axial pressure projections and a lubrication groove
4. Generously lubricate the bearings with oil and lower the crankshaft onto them (photo).
20.4. Installing the crankshaft into the crankcase
5. Wipe the seating areas of the liners on the covers, install the liners (photo).
20.5. Installing the main bearing shell into the cover
6. While lubricating the liners, insert the covers into their places according to the numbering (No. 1 is the first from the toothed drive belt).
7. Tighten the cover bolts and tighten them to the tightening torque specified in the Specifications in the sequence shown in Figure 1.38 (photo).

20.7. Tighten the main bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown
8. If new bearings are used, the crankshaft clearance should be within tolerance, but this must be checked.
9. To check the clearance, lock the crankshaft in one of the extreme positions and measure the clearance between the axial pressure protrusion of the bearing and the surface of the crankshaft (photo).
20.9. Measuring the crankshaft lateral clearance
10. If the clearance is too large and new liners are installed, the reason is inaccurate regrinding of the crankshaft.
11. Bolt the crankshaft oil seal retainer using a new oil seal and gasket (photo).
20.11A. Install the new seal into the holder...
20.11B.... and install the holder in the crankcase
12. Install the engine/transmission coupling plate onto the studs (photo).

13. Place the flywheel on the mounting lug.
14. Tighten the flywheel bolts to the tightening torque specified in Specifications. Block the crankshaft as shown (photo).
20.14A. Apply locking fluid to the flywheel bolt threads
20.14B. Lock the flywheel as shown...
15. Install the piston/connecting rod assemblies as described in Chapter 9.
16. Install the oil pump and pan as described in Chapters 8 and 7.
17. Install the cylinder head as described in Chapter 6.
18. Install the toothed drive belt as described in Chapter 5.
