Removal
1. Support the front wheels with wheel chocks. Loosen the wheel nuts, jack up the rear of the car and place it on supports. Remove the rear wheels.
2. Unbolt the brake hose support bracket from the strut. On ABS-equipped models, remove the clamp clamp bolt and disconnect the wheel sensor wiring harness from the strut.
3. Without disconnecting the hydraulic hose, remove the brake caliper and brake disc (see Chapter Brake system). Tie the caliper with wire to the underbody or suspension element - try not to allow the brake hose to be stretched.
4. If the strut needs to be replaced, remove the hub and wheel bearing assembly.
5. Disconnect the longitudinal and transverse arms from the rack (see section Removal and installation rear suspension arms (models produced in 1993 and 1994.)).
6. Open the luggage compartment lid and remove the appropriate interior trim panels to gain access to the upper pillar assembly mounting hardware.
7. Remove the shock absorber support rubber cover. Have an assistant hold the strut assembly and loosen the upper mounting nuts. Remove the assembly from under the car through the wheel arch. If the strut needs replacing, disconnect the trailing arm bracket from it and transfer it to the replacement assembly. Make sure the fasteners are tightened to the required torque.

Examination
Proceed in accordance with the instructions given in paragraphs 6 and 7 of Section Removal, condition check and installation of front suspension strut assemblies. Description of the procedure for disassembling the rack (if there is a need for it) see in Section Replacing the shock absorber/coil spring of the strut assembly.
Installation
1. Using an assistant, place the rack in its regular place under the wheel arch and carefully insert the studs of its upper support into the corresponding body holes. Screw on the mounting nuts, but do not tighten them yet.
2. Connect the longitudinal and transverse arms to the rack (see section Removal and installation rear suspension arms (models produced in 1993 and 1994.)). Support the rear suspension with a jack, placing the latter under the trailing arm bracket - the components should be suspended at normal working height. Tighten the transverse and trailing arm fasteners to the required force.
3. Attach the brake hose support bracket to the strut. On ABS models, install the wheel sensor wiring harness mounting bracket.
4. Install the wheels, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel nuts to the required torque (see Chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
5. Tighten the upper strut support nuts to the required torque. Reinstall the luggage compartment interior trim panels.
Models since 1995.
Removal

2. Loosen the nut of the bolt securing the lower end of the shock absorber to the rear axle assembly.
3. The nuts securing the upper support of the rack assembly are located inside the luggage compartment - remove the corresponding interior trim panels. Ask an assistant to hold the assembly and release the upper mounting nuts. Remove the rack from under the car through the wheel arch.

Examination

Installation
1. Using an assistant, place the rack in its regular place under the wheel arch and carefully insert the studs of its upper support into the corresponding body holes. Screw on the mounting nuts, but do not tighten them yet.
2. Attach the lower end of the shock absorber to the rear axle assembly, insert the mounting bolt into the holes. Support the suspension with a jack, raise the components to normal operating height, and tighten the mounting bolt nut to the required torque.
Attention! The jack should be placed under the bracket of the longitudinal suspension arm, but under no circumstances under the arms!
3. Tighten the upper strut support nuts to the required torque. Reinstall the luggage compartment interior trim panels.
