Removing
1. Support the front wheels with wheel chocks. Loosen the wheel nuts, jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Remove rear wheels.
2. Remove the brake hose support bracket from the rack. On ABS-equipped models, remove the clamp tie bolt and separate the wheel sensor wiring harness from the strut.
3. Without disconnecting the hydraulic hose, remove the brake caliper and brake disc (see chapter Brake system). Tie the caliper with wire to the bottom or suspension element - try not to allow the brake hose to be pulled.
4. If the strut needs to be replaced, remove the wheel bearing hub assembly.
5. Disconnect the longitudinal and transverse levers from the rack (see Section Removal and installation of rear suspension arms (1993 and 1994 models issue)).
6. Open the luggage compartment lid and remove the corresponding interior trim panels in order to gain access to the rack top support fasteners.
7. Remove the rubber shock absorber mount cover. Have an assistant hold the rack assembly and remove the top mounting nuts. remove the assembly from under the car through the wheel arch. If the strut needs to be replaced, detach the trailing arm bracket from the strut and transfer it to a replacement assembly. make sure that the fasteners are tightened to the required torque.
Examination
Proceed in accordance with the instructions given in paragraphs 6 and 7 of Section Removal, check of a condition and installation of rack-mount assemblies of a forward suspension bracket. Description of rack disassembly procedure (if the need arises) see Section Shock absorber/coil spring replacement strut assembly.
Installation
1. With the help of an assistant, move the strut to its regular place under the wheel arch and carefully thread the studs of its upper support into the reciprocal body holes. Install, but do not yet tighten, the fixing nuts.
2. Connect the longitudinal and transverse arms to the rack (see Section Removal and installation of rear suspension arms (1993 and 1994 models issue)). Support the rear suspension with a jack under the trailing arm bracket until the components are at normal operating height. Tighten fasteners transverse and trailing arms with the required force.
3. Attach the brake hose support bracket to the stand. On models with ABS, install the wheel sensor harness mounting bracket.
4. Install the wheels, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel nuts to the required torque (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
5. Torque tighten the top post nuts. Install the luggage compartment lining panels.
Models since 1995 vol.
Removing
1. Support the front wheels with wheel chocks. Loosen the wheel nuts, jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Remove rear wheels.
2. Give a nut of a bolt of fastening of the lower end of the shock-absorber to assemblage of the back bridge.
3. Nuts of fastening of the top support of rack assembly are located in a luggage compartment, - remove the corresponding panels of an internal upholstery. Ask an assistant to hold the assembly and give the upper fixing nuts. Remove the strut from under the car through the wheel arch.
Examination
1. Proceed as directed in paragraphs 6 and 7 of Section Removal, check of a condition and installation of rack-mount assemblies of a forward suspension bracket.
2. Connect the lower end of the shock absorber to the rear axle assembly, thread the mounting bolt through the holes. Support the suspension with a jack, raise the components to normal working height and tighten the mounting bolt nut to the required torque.
Attention! The jack should be driven under the trailing arm bracket - in no case under the levers!
3. Torque tighten the top post nuts. Install the luggage compartment lining panels.
