Warning! Some models covered in this Manual are equipped with airbags - always turn off the SRS when servicing components located near the airbags (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
1. Follow the procedures in paragraphs 8 through 12 of Section Checking, adjusting and replacing the gear shift cable.
2. Disconnect the key lock actuator cable from the shift lock solenoid valve and release it from the support bracket at the front of the selector lever base (see section Transmission Shift Lock System - General Information, Checking Condition and Replacing Components).

3. Loosen the two front nuts securing the selector lever assembly.
4. Jack up the car and place it on supports.
5. From below, loosen the two rear nuts securing the selector lever to the floor.
6. Inside the vehicle, disconnect any wiring that may interfere with removal of the linkage assembly, then separate the linkage assembly from the floor panel and remove it from the vehicle.
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Do not forget to adjust the drive cable (see section Checking, adjusting and replacing the gear shift cable).
