Move the selector lever from position "P" to position "1" - when passing each of the ranges, you should feel the click of the corresponding lock. If the locks do not work, or the readings of the lever position indicator do not correspond to the actually selected AT mode, adjust the transmission shift control drive cable.
Adjustment
1. Move the selector lever to position "P".
2. Jack up the car and place it on supports.
3. On 1993 and 1994 models, loosen the locknuts securing the cable to the shift rod. On 1995 and later models, loosen the locknut securing the cable to the manual shift lever. Move the manual shift lever to the "P" position.
4. On 1993 and 1994 models, tighten the rear locknut until it contacts the shift rod (not much - until the slack in the cable is selected), then tighten the front locknut. On 1995 and later models, pull the cable down and hold it and the hand lever in this position while tightening the locknut.
5. Move the selector lever from position "P" to position "1". Make sure that the lever moves smoothly.
6. Lower the car to the ground.
Replacement
Warning! Some models covered in this Manual are equipped with airbags - always turn off the SRS when servicing components located near the airbags (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
1. Remove the center console and the center section trim of the instrument panel (see Chapter Body).
2. Remove the handle from the AT selector lever.

3. Remove the transmission position indicator panel.
4. Disconnect the drive cable from the selector lever.
5. Release the cable from the base of the lever assembly.
6. Jack up the car and place it on supports.
7. Disconnect the cable from the manual shift lever on the transmission. On 1993 and 1994 models, the cable is secured with a clamp; on 1995 and later models, a nut is used.
8. Remove the C-shaped fastener securing the cable to the support bracket on the transmission case. Release the cable from the bracket.
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Do not forget to adjust the cable (see above).
