Adjustment
1. Move the selector lever to position "R".
2. Jack up the car and put it on stands.
3. On 1993 and 1994 models. issue loosen the locknuts securing the cable to the shift rod. On models since 1995, no. Loosen the cable locknut on the manual shift lever. Move the hand lever to position "R".
4. On 1993 and 1994 models. issue tighten the rear locknut just enough to press against the shift rod (not much - until the choice of cable slack), then tighten the front locknut. On models since 1995, no. pull the cable down and, while holding it and the hand lever in this position, tighten the locknut.
5. Move the selector lever from the position "R" into position "1". Make sure the lever moves smoothly.
6. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
Replacement
Attention! Some of the models covered in this manual are equipped with airbags - be sure to turn off the SRS when servicing components located near the airbags (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
1. Remove the center console and trim of the center section of the instrument panel (see chapter Body).
2. Remove the handle from the AT selector lever.
3. Remove the transmission position indicator indicator panel.
4. Disconnect the drive cable from the selector lever.
5. Release the cable from the base of the linkage assembly.
6. Jack up the car and put it on stands.
7. Disconnect the cable from the manual shift lever on the transmission. On models 1993 and 1994 issue the cable is attached by means of a clamp, - on models since 1995, no. nut is used.
8. Remove the cable C-clip from the support bracket on the transmission case. Release the cable from the bracket.
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Don't forget to adjust the cable (see above).
