Steering gear
Inspect the steering gear housing and protective covers. The covers should not have any cracks or damage. Make sure there are no grease leaks.
Check the fastening of the steering gear to the steering column.
Steering rods
There should be no play in the ball joints of the steering rod ends. The stitched joint boots should not have cracks, damage or signs of grease leakage. Check the rods for damage.
