Steering gear housing — checking offset (Nissan Serena C24)

When turning the steering wheel, the steering gear housing is displaced due to elastic deformation of the rack mounting insulator. Check the amount of displacement.

1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. Apply a force of 49 N (5 kg) to the steering wheel with the ignition switch turned to the OFF position and measure the amount of displacement.

• Steering gear housing offset value: less than ±2 mm

2. If the offset limit value is different from the standard, check whether the steering gear bracket assembly is installed correctly and replace the insulator.
