Liquid level check
Check the fluid level with the engine not running.
Make sure the fluid level is between the MAX and MIN·marks on the reservoir. The level should not be above the MAX mark. Excess liquid will begin to flow out from under the cap.
Please note that the liquid level may vary depending on its temperature.
- HOT range (hot): Oil temperature 50 to 80°C
- COLD range (cold): Oil temperature 0 to 30°C
Attention:
Do not reuse drained power steering fluid.
Use NISSAN Power Steering Fluid. Do not use Nissan Matic Fluid C or D.
Checking for Fluid Leaks
Check for leaks, cracks, damage, looseness, or wear at the power steering tube joints.
1. Start the engine and let it run at idle speed. until the temperature of the liquid in the reservoir reaches 50-80°C.
2. Turn the steering wheel left and right several times.
3. Turn the steering wheel clockwise or counterclockwise until it stops and hold it there for five seconds. Check for leaks.
Attention: Do not hold the steering wheel in the end position for 15 seconds or more. Otherwise, the pump may be damaged.
4. If a leak is found at any joint, loosen the union nut and re-tighten it. Overtightening can damage the O-ring, washer, or fitting.
Bleeding the hydraulic system
1. Raise the car.
2. Fill fluid into reservoir. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times. If the fluid level drops, add fluid. Repeat the procedure until there is no more liquid in the reservoir or no air bubbles.
3. Start the engine and repeat the indicated procedure at idle speed. Continue until the liquid stops decreasing. If pumping is not carried out to the end, the following symptoms may be observed:
- Air bubbles form in the tank.
- A loud noise is heard from the oil pump.
- A howling sound is heard from the oil pump.
When turning the steering wheel to the extreme positions, the sound of flowing fluid can be heard from the valve and pump. This sound does not affect the performance or life of the steering gear in any way.
