Covers
Check the condition of the cover. Replace it if worn or deformed.
Rail
Check the working surface of the rack. Replace it if worn or damaged.
Steering gear assembly
Check the pinion for wear and damage. Replace the steering gear assembly if necessary.
Check the bearing for uniformity and freedom of rotation. Replace the steering gear assembly if necessary.
Steering gear housing assembly
Check the housing for cracks and internal damage. Replace if necessary.
Ball joints
Swing force
Attach the dynamometer to the point shown in the figure and pull the dynamometer. Check the force at which the hinge pin and the inner end begin to move. If the measurement results are different from the norm, replace the outer and inner ends.
External tips
- Swing force: 0.30-2.94 Nm (0.03-0.30 kg·m)
- Dynamometer force: 4.81 -47.3 N (0.49-4.83 kg)

Internal tips
- Distance L: 119 mm
- Swing force: 1.0-7.8 Nm (0.1 -0.8 kg·m)
- Dynamometer force: 8.05-63.7 N (0.82-6.50 kg) (in the direction of the arrow)
Turning point
Using a preload gauge (special tool) measure the turning moment of the outer tip. Replace if abnormal.

- Outer tip turning torque: 0.30-2.94 Nm (0.03-0.30 kg·m)
Axial play
Measure the end play of the end piece with a dial indicator under a load of 490 N (50 kg). If play is detected, replace the inner and outer ends.
- External tips: less than 0.4 mm
- Inner tips: 0 mm
