Removal
1. Remove the airbag module. See Chapter. Additional passive safety system.
2. Disconnect all connectors.
3. Loosen the steering wheel mounting nut and apply alignment marks with paint on the steering wheel housing and on top of the steering column shaft.
4. Remove the steering wheel using a puller (special tool).
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
Note: When reusing the coiled wire, tape the wire so that it does not move relative to the fixed housing. This will save you from having to perform the neutral position check procedure when installing the coiled wire.
Neutral position (see picture)... Carefully turn the spiral wire clockwise until it stops. Then turn it counterclockwise (approximately 2.5 turns), until the centering mark is aligned with the adjustment mark (the movable part is fixed in the neutral position using a stopper; it can be installed on the steering wheel without alignment after removing the stopper).
Attention:
Install the steering wheel as follows: Turn the front wheels to the straight-ahead position. The R mark on the release grip should be facing down. The three tabs should be aligned with the three holes under the steering wheel assembly. Make sure the coil wire is in the neutral position and that the locating pin to the left of the coil wire is aligned with the hole under the steering wheel assembly.
Do not turn the coiled wire more than necessary. Do not over tighten (the wire may come off).
After installation, check that the system is working properly by observing the airbag indicator light.
If the air bag warning light indicates a malfunction, use the self-diagnosis function or the CONSULT tester to clear the diagnostic results.
If the airbag warning light still indicates a malfunction, diagnose the system. Repair the faulty components.
