2. Make sure there are no fluid leaks from the gearbox.
3. Before driving, the fluid level must be checked against the COLD marks on the dipstick (liquid temperature from 30 to 50°С).
- a. Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
- b. Start the engine and move the selector through all positions. Return the selector to position R.
- c. The fluid level is checked with the engine idling.
- d. Remove the dipstick and take readings. If the fluid level is at any of the lower marks, add fluid through the filler tube.
- e. Insert the rod back into the filling tube to the maximum depth.
- f. Remove the rod and take readings. If the fluid level is at the lower end of the range, add fluid through the fill tube. Do not exceed the maximum level.
4. After 5 minutes of city driving, check the fluid level at the HOT marks.
5. Check fluid condition. If the fluid is very dark, has a burning smell, or contains particles of friction material, check the operation of the gearbox. (Checking the automatic transmission is described in the relevant chapter).
Fluid change in automatic transmission
1. Warm up the fluid in the gearbox.
2. Stop the engine.
3. Drain the fluid through the drain hole and fill the gearbox with new ATF.
Fill always the same volume as was drained. Full filling volume (with torque converter) and grades of liquid are given in the section «Recommended Lubricants and Fluids». Drain plug tightening torque 29-39 Nm.
4. Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.
5. Check fluid level and condition. If the fluid remains dirty, change it again.
