The voltage regulator is specially designed to maintain the generator output voltage at a constant level. The generator itself limits the voltage, since its output voltage is monitored, and the function of the regulator is to monitor its value. The regulator is an electronic device and cannot be repaired.
The regulator is not combined with a fuse to prevent the battery from discharging through the generator, since the main contact of the generator is connected to a diode bridge, which, in addition to rectifying the generator voltage, also prevents current from flowing from the battery to the generator.
There is no need for a car owner to purchase special equipment to check the regulator, so if it malfunctions, the regulator should be replaced with a new one.
