Note: Before removing the camshafts from the cylinder heads, the amount of axial clearance of their fit should be measured.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the cylinder head covers (see section Removal and installation cylinder head covers).
3. Remove the timing chains and sprockets (see section Removal, condition check and installation of timing chain and sprockets).
4. Mark the camshaft bearing caps. Moving in the reverse order to that shown in the illustration, loosen the cap mounting bolts in 2 to 3 steps.
5. Remove the bearing caps and remove the camshafts from the cylinder heads.
Attention! Store the removed covers in an organized manner - when reassembling, they must be installed strictly in their previous positions. Pay attention to the presence of identification markings on the shafts.
6. Remove the tappets from the cylinder heads together with the adjusting washers installed on them.
Attention! Store the tappets removed from the engine in an organized manner - when reassembling, they must be installed strictly in their original places.

Installation
1. Install the valve tappets together with the adjusting washers strictly in their original places.
2. Lubricate the camshaft cams and bearing journals with molybdenum-containing grease.
3. Insert the shafts into their original positions in the corresponding cylinder heads and turn them with the guide pins facing upwards and parallel to the cylinder row.
4. Apply RTV sealant to the mating surface of the first bearing caps.
5. Install the bearing caps, screw in and hand tighten the bolts.
6. Moving in a strictly defined order, tighten the bearing cap mounting bolts in several steps with the required force.
7. Reinstall the timing drive components (chains and sprockets) (See Section Removal, condition check and installation of timing chain and sprockets). While blocking the camshafts from turning with an open-end wrench, tighten the sprocket mounting bolts to the required force.
8. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling the components. If the valve train components were replaced, check and adjust the valve clearances (see section Checking and adjusting valve clearances).
