Removing
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
Front cylinder head cover
1. Remove vent hoses and spool cover.
2. Remove ignition coils (see chapter Engine electrical equipment).
3. Acting in the reverse order shown in the illustration, turn out the bolts of the cylinder head cover.
4. Remove the cover.
Note. For branch "stuck" tap the lid with a hammer through a block of wood. In no case do not pry the cover with a lever under the mating surface!
Rear cylinder head cover
1. Remove the top section of the inlet pipeline (injection chamber) (see Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline).
2. Remove the ignition coil assembly from the rear cover (see chapter Engine electrical equipment).
3. Having released fixing collars, disconnect from a cover ventilating hoses.
4. Disconnect the PCV hose and wiring that is preventing the cover from being removed.
5. Acting in the reverse order shown in the illustration, turn out the bolts of the cylinder head cover.
6. Remove the cover.
Note. For branch "stuck" tap the lid with a hammer through a block of wood. In no case do not pry the cover with a lever under the mating surface!
Installation
Both lids
1. The mating surfaces of the cylinder heads and their covers must be absolutely clean and dry. Using a scraper, remove all traces of the old sealant and fragments of the destroyed gasket, then wipe the surfaces with a rag soaked in acetone. The presence of traces of oil on the mating surfaces can lead to the development of leaks.
2. If necessary, drive the threads of the mounting bolts with a suitable lerkoy, restoring damaged turns and removing rust and traces of old sealant. Drive the threaded holes in the head with a tap of the appropriate size.
3. Check up a condition of the sealing washers of directing tubes of spark plugs planted in covers of heads of cylinders, in case of need make replacement.
4. Fill the groove on the mating surface of the cover with RTV sealant, also apply sealant to the corners of the cover joints with the cover of the front camshaft bearings. Lay a new gasket over the sealant. Let the sealant dry a little and fix the gasket on the cover.
5. Gently press the cover against the cylinder head and screw in the fixing bolts.
6. Moving in a strictly defined order, tighten the bolts in three or four stages with the required force.
7. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
8. Start the engine and check it for signs of leak development.
