Checking the proper functioning and replacing the starter circuit breaker switch sensor (Nissan Maxima A32)

1. The starter circuit breaker switch is located near the upper end of the clutch pedal.

2. Check that the pedal height and free travel of the pushrod are set correctly (see section Adjusting the clutch pedal).

3. Make sure that the engine cannot be started when the clutch pedal is released.

4. Make sure that the engine starts smoothly with the clutch pedal depressed.

5. If the sensor-switch is not functioning properly, you should check the correctness of its electrical conditions.

6. Using an ohmmeter, check for conductivity between the terminals of the assembly contact connector when the plunger of the sensor switch is pressed.

7. When the plunger is released, the conductivity should disappear.

8. The faulty sensor-switch is subject to replacement - loosen the lock nut on the sensor body, then unscrew the assembly and disconnect the electrical wiring from it. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.

9. Adjust the clutch pedal (see section Adjusting the clutch pedal)

10. Make sure that the engine can only be started by depressing the clutch pedal.
