If there is a suspicion of engine wear, it is necessary to check the compression in the cylinders and obtain valuable information regarding the condition of all the main parts of the internal device of the engine (see Ch. 2B). If, for example, the compression is such that it clearly indicates severe engine wear, then routine maintenance will not restore normal performance and a major overhaul with complete disassembly should be performed. Check the condition and level of all fluids in the engine.

Clean, inspect and test the battery.

Check the condition and tension of all belts.

Replace the spark plugs.

Check the compression in the cylinders.

Check the distributor cap and rotor.

Check the high voltage wires.

Check the condition of the air filter and crankcase ventilation valve.
