Periodic maintenance of the cooling system comes down to checking and eliminating leaks, checking and restoring the fluid level, the condition of the fluid, cleaning the radiator filler cap, the intercostal spaces of the radiator, checking the condition of the hoses. Checks are performed on a cold engine at least 1 day before the trip, or at least 3 hours after the trip. To unscrew the radiator cap, turn the cap counterclockwise until it stops, wait for the gases to escape (a hissing sound will be heard), press the plug and turn it to remove it. Add fluid if the level does not reach the base of the radiator neck. Replace hoses with signs of hardening, swelling, softening of the material, as well as with cracks. In case of serious damage (radiator leak) contact a service station.
