This subsection examines in detail the procedure for performing such work as dismantling the power unit from the vehicle and major repairs of the cylinder head, cylinder block/crankcase, and other parts of the internal structure of the engine.
This subsection provides advice on preparing and organizing work on major repairs and purchasing spare parts, and also describes in detail the procedures for disassembling the engine, checking the technical condition, repairing and installing engine components and parts.
Starting from subsection 3.2.2.6 the description is given on the assumption that the engine has been removed from the vehicle. A description of the types of repairs without removing the engine from the vehicle, as well as the procedure for removing and installing engine components and assemblies required to perform a major overhaul, is given in the relevant subsection 3.2.1 and further, as well as in subsections 3.2.2.1.1, 3.2.2.2, 3.2.2.3, 3.2.2.4. After removing the engine, there is no point in performing the preliminary disassembly operations described in subsection 3.2.1 and further to the end of the section.
All regulatory data required for major repairs are provided in subsection 3.2.2.2, with the exception of the tightening torques specified in subsection 3.2.1.1.
