2. First check the adjustment of the accelerator cable.
3. Loosen the reverse shift cable locknuts ("A" and "B", Figure 7.5) completely at the upper end, on each side of the accelerator cable bracket.

4. Open the throttle fully.
5. Move the outer casing "Q" of the reverse shift cable downwards (direction "T") until all the play in the cable is eliminated, tighten the lock nut "B" upwards (direction "U") of the suspension. Loosen the lower lock nut "B" three full turns to set the specified play, then lock the lock nut "A" downwards (direction "U") and tighten it. Release the throttle pulley, and while depressing the accelerator pedal, check the adjustment of both cables.
6. The same regulator, with two lock nuts, is also located at the lower end of the cable (Figure 7.8). If the adjustment range at the top end is not enough, use the two lock nuts at the bottom to adjust the cable.

7. Check the kickdown cable movement, first check the adjustment as described above, then check that the cable is routed without sharp bends or loops.
8. Check that the accelerator pedal is released and that the throttle pulley is in the fully closed position (idle speed) (position 'P2'. Figure 7.7) Using white paint, mark the drop in the inner cable connection where it exits the outer casing.

Figure 7.7. Checking the movement of the lowering cable: 'L' = 39 - 43 mm; For P1 and P2 see text
9. Open the throttle fully and hold the pulley fully open (place "P"), make a second mark on the inner cable at the point where it emerges from the outer casing. Measure the distance 'L' between the two marks (see figure 7.7).
10. If the obtained value is outside the specified range, carefully check the adjustment of the accelerator cable, remove the air filter cover (carburetor models) or intake duct (fuel injection models), check that the throttle plates are fully open when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed. Also check the condition of the downshift (kickdown) cable directly, replace if necessary, check that the transmission control valve lever is securely attached to the shaft.
