Removal and installation. 1. Seal the partition; 2. Steering gear assembly; 3. Heat shield; 4. Front suspension beam.
Removal and installation
Removal
- 1. Set the front wheels to the straight-ahead position.
- 2. Remove the intermediate shaft mounting bolt (from the bottom side) and separate the intermediate shaft from the steering gear worm shaft.
- 3. Using an impact wrench, remove the wheels.
- 4. Press the outer tie rod end out of the steering knuckle using a suitable ball joint puller, being careful not to damage the ball joint boot.
Caution: To avoid damaging the threads and the ball joint puller coming off, tighten the nut by hand.
5. Remove the front suspension beam.
6. Remove the steering gear assembly.
Installation
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
Caution: If you turn the steering wheel while separating the steering column from the steering gear, the spiral wire may come off. To prevent this from happening, secure the steering wheel with a rope.
- If the steering gear assembly is removed, perform final tightening of the nuts and bolts on all components in an unloaded condition with the vehicle on the ground. Check the wheel alignment angles. See Chapter "Front axle and suspension".
- After checking the front wheel alignment angles, adjust the neutral position of the steering angle sensor.
