Warning! The models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment). The SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
Note: The procedure for dismantling the instrument panel seems quite complicated and it would be better to entrust its implementation to car service specialists.
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the center console (see section Removal and installation the center console).
3. Remove the steering column cover sections (see section Removal and installation steering column cover sections).
4. Remove the instrument panel trim (see section Removal and installation trim sections of the instrument panel).
5. Remove the instrument panel (see Chapter On-board electrical equipment).
6. Remove the instrument panel trim sections (see section Removal and installation trim sections of the instrument panel)
7. Remove the radio and heater/air conditioner control panel (see Chapters Cooling and heating systems and On-board electrical equipment).

8. Remove the front door sill trims from both front doors. The trims are secured with clips and can be removed by simply prying them off with a suitable tool.
9. Remove the windshield pillar trim panels.
10. The passenger airbag assembly is attached to the rear of the instrument panel. Disconnect the associated electrical wiring, remove the bolts securing the lower portion of the airbag module to the instrument panel reinforcement beam.
Note: The bolts have TORX type heads, are sealed and are loosened/tightened using a special key.
11. Pry off the windshield air deflectors and unscrew the upper instrument panel mounting bolts located underneath them.
12. Release any other fasteners and disconnect all wiring to the in-dash controls. Pull the panel back and remove it from the vehicle.
13. At the center of the instrument panel/console assembly support bracket, remove the body control module (BCM) - first mark all electrical wiring connected to the module. Also remove the ECM (see Chapter Engine management systems).
14. After loosening the upper and lower fasteners, remove the two vertical support brackets located in the central part of the reinforcement beam. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the internal fuse box and the hood release lever from the reinforcement beam.

15. Lower the steering column by moving it away from the instrument panel reinforcement beam (see section Removal and installation the heater heat exchanger).
16. Mark and disconnect the electrical wiring connected to the instrument panel reinforcement beam. Unscrew the mounting bolts, tilt the beam and remove it from the car (right end first).

17. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
