Caution: Observe fire safety precautions when working with the fuel system - do not smoke, do not use open flames and have a fire extinguisher handy.
The fuel system can be easily checked when the vehicle is raised and the underside is accessible.
If you smell gasoline in the car while driving or in hot weather, the fuel system should be checked immediately.
- Remove the fuel tank cap and inspect it carefully. The gasket must be intact. If the gasket is damaged or corroded, install a new cover.
- Check the fuel supply and return lines for cracks, and ensure that the connections between the fuel lines and the fuel injection system and between the fuel lines and the integrated fuel filter are securely tightened.
Caution: Before servicing fuel system components, the system pressure must be relieved. The procedure for relieving the pressure of the vehicle's fuel system is described in relevant chapter.
- With the vehicle raised, inspect the fuel tank and filler neck for dents, cracks, or other damage. Particular attention should be paid to the connection between the filler neck and the tank. Sometimes the rubber filler neck leaks due to loose fastening clamps or damage to the rubber. Check all fuel tank brackets, clamps and straps to ensure it is securely attached to the vehicle.
Caution: If you have no experience, do not attempt to repair the fuel tank yourself, except for replacing rubber parts. Welding or soldering may cause fuel vapors in the tank to explode.
- Carefully inspect all rubber hoses and metal pipes coming from the tank for loose connections, damage, pinching, or other defects. Check the highways along their entire length. Replace or repair defective areas.
