Attention! When performing work, observe fire safety rules. Depressurization of the fuel line of injection engines is allowed only after decompression of the system (Ch. 4).
1. The fuel tank is mounted at the rear of the body.
2. It is best to check the fuel system when the car is lifted with a hoist or placed on stands, since some parts of the fuel system, such as the tank and part of the fuel line, are located on the bottom side.
3. The fuel system needs to be checked immediately if there is a smell of gasoline while driving or after parking the car under the sun.
4. Turn away a stopper of a jellied mouth of a fuel tank and check up on it presence of traces of corrosion and laying damage. There should be a clear imprint of the edge of the filler neck on the gasket. Replace gasket if necessary.
5. Check, being under the car, a condition of a tank and a mouth. Especially carefully inspect the connection of the neck with the tank. The presence of punctures, cracks and mechanical damage is not allowed. The cause of a leak can sometimes be a loose connection of the neck rubber tube or deterioration of the rubber. Such defects can be eliminated independently.
Attention! Do not attempt to repair the fuel tank yourself.

6. Carefully inspect all rubber hoses and metal tubes extending from the tank. Check the connections for signs of wear, pinching or other damage on the hoses. Carefully check the condition of the tubes along the entire length. If necessary, repair damaged sections of the line, or replace.
7. If the smell of gasoline persists, then check the injection system (Ch. 4).
