Caution: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so extreme caution must be taken when working with any part of the fuel system. Do not smoke, make open flames or turn on unprotected lamps (portable lamps) near the vehicle.
The fuel filter integrated into the fuel system is located in the engine compartment.
Although manufacturers claim that the filter integrated into the fuel system will operate reliably for the entire life of the vehicle and that replacement is only necessary when it becomes clogged, we still recommend replacing the fuel filter every 60,000 km or once every 2.5 years, as operating in Russian conditions is equated to operating in harsh conditions due to poor roads and low-quality fuel.
Before starting work, prepare a new filter.
Important: Make sure the new filter is specifically designed for your vehicle.
Fuel injection system filters are designed to withstand high pressure and are often more expensive than carburetor system filters. Under high pressure, filters designed for carburetor systems can simply explode.
Also make sure that the new filter has special clips to make it easy to replace (if they are provided). The manufacturer does not recommend reusing such clamps.
Caution: Before replacing the fuel filter, relieve the pressure in the fuel system
Removal
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is off.
- Place a container under the fuel filter to collect the fuel.
- Remove the air inlet hose.
- Relieve fuel pressure in the fuel system.
- Unscrew the lower fuel pipe from the filter and remove the fuel filter.
Installation
- Insert and screw in the new fuel filter with new gaskets. Tighten the hollow bolt to 35 Nm.
- To operate the fuel pump, connect battery voltage to the fuel pump terminal via an auxiliary wire.
- After creating pressure in the fuel system, check the connection points for leaks.
- Disconnect the auxiliary wire.
- Connect the battery.
