2. Check the condition of the journals. Measure the diameter of the journals in several places and determine the taper and ovality (photo). Check the crankshaft runout by installing it in prisms.

3. If there is damage on the shaft journals, and also if the ovality, taper and wear of the journals exceed the established limits, the shaft should be reground and the main and connecting rod bearings should be replaced with repair ones.
4. If a deep groove from the working edge of the seal has formed on the journals under the seals, or there are scratches or other damage, then it is recommended to replace the crankshaft.
