1. Remove the engine or gearbox (Chapter Engine or Manual transmission, differential and final drive).
2. Mark the position of the clutch relative to the flywheel. To do this, use a center punch, which makes marks in the clutch cover and flywheel.
3. Loosen the clutch bolts evenly in the sequence shown in the illustration until the spring load is removed.

4. Remove the clutch cover and remove the driven disc.
5. Immediately wipe the inside of the flywheel with a rag and check the friction surface of the flywheel. If the driven disk is worn down to the rivet heads, the rivets may have cut into the flywheel. If required, replace the flywheel as described in the appropriate chapter.
6. When removing the engine and gearbox, the clutch always unscrews, so that it can be checked. Replacing the clutch at this point saves you worries in the future. Also check the release bearing.
