1. Before starting the engine, check fluid levels, including coolant and engine oil. If necessary, add appropriate liquids to the correct level.
2. Before starting the engine, bleed the air from the fuel system.
3. Check the operation of the engine for extraneous noise and vibration.
4. Fully warm up the engine to check for fuel, exhaust, or fluid leaks, including engine oil and coolant.
5. Remove air by pumping from pipelines and hoses of hydraulic systems that have been disconnected (e.g. engine cooling systems).
