The light on the instrument panel with the inscription "AIRBAG" indicates the state of the electrical circuits of the airbag device, including the electrical circuit of the sensor unit and other modules.
When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" or "START" position, the air bag light comes on for about 7 seconds and then goes out. This means the system is working.
The following situations require that you contact your nearest Nissan dealer for inspection and repair of the air bag unit:
- 1. The airbag light goes out before 7 seconds.
- 2. The light blinks or remains on after 7 seconds.
- 3. The light bulb does not light at all.
In these cases, the additional security system is activated (inflatable pillow) not guaranteed.
Repair and replacement procedure
The airbag is designed to inflate only once (disposable system). The airbag light stays on continuously after the additional safety system has been activated, reminding you to replace the airbag (unless it is a case of electrical fault). Repair and replacement of the air bag may only be performed by an authorized Nissan dealer.
To ensure a long service life, the entire module must undergo a technical inspection 10 years after the machine is manufactured, with subsequent inspections every two years.
During routine maintenance, the person performing the maintenance must be aware of the airbag module and its associated components. Always turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" position before working under the engine hood or inside the vehicle.
CAREFULLY!
- Once the airbag has been deployed, the module becomes inoperative and requires replacement. The airbag module cannot be repaired.
- After the airbag has inflated, the front instrument panel must be replaced. To do this, contact your Nissan dealer (this applies to models equipped with an inflatable airbag for the front passenger).
- If there is mechanical damage to the front of the vehicle or if the airbag has deployed, contact an authorized Nissan dealer for inspection or replacement.
- When selling a vehicle to another person, you should inform him about the presence of an inflatable airbag device and point to the relevant section in the operating instructions.
- If it is necessary to remove the airbag device or to scrap the car, you should first contact an authorized Nissan dealer. The rules for removing the airbag are defined in the relevant "Operating Instructions" of Nissan. Incorrect removal of the airbag may result in injury.
