Light bulb on the dashboard "AIRBAG" signals the state of the electrical circuits of the airbag device, including the electrical circuits of the sensor unit and other modules.
When the ignition key is turned to position "ON" or "START" The airbag light comes on for about 7 seconds and then goes off. This means that the system is in working order.
The following are situations in which you should contact your nearest Nissan dealer to inspect and repair the airbag unit:
- 1. The airbag light goes out sooner than 7 seconds.
- 2. The lamp flashes or stays on after 7 seconds.
- 3. The light bulb does not light up at all.
In these cases, the operation of the additional security system (inflatable pillow) not guaranteed.
Repair and replacement procedure
The airbag is designed to inflate only once (disposable system). The airbag lamp lights up permanently after the additional security system has been activated, reminding you of the need to replace the airbag (unless it is a fault in the electrical circuit). Only an authorized Nissan dealer may repair or replace the air bag.
To ensure a long service life, the entire module must undergo a technical inspection 10 years after the machine is manufactured, followed by inspections every two years.
During routine maintenance, the person performing the maintenance should point out the airbag module and related components. Before working under the engine hood or inside the vehicle, always turn the ignition key to the "LOCK".
CAREFULLY!
- After the airbag deploys, the module becomes inoperable and needs to be replaced. The airbag module cannot be repaired.
- After inflating the airbag, the front instrument panel must be replaced. To do this, contact your Nissan dealer (this applies to models equipped with an airbag for the front passenger).
- In the event of mechanical damage to the front of the vehicle or after the airbag has deployed, have an authorized Nissan dealer inspect or replace it.
- When selling the car to another person, inform him about the presence of an airbag device and point to the appropriate section in the operating instructions.
- If you need to remove the airbag unit or scrap the vehicle, contact an Authorized Nissan Dealer first. The rules for dismantling the air bag are defined in the relevant "Operating Instructions" Nissan company. Incorrect disassembly of the airbag can cause injury.
