Driver and front passenger airbags:
- They are designed to reduce the force of impact on the driver and front passenger in a frontal collision in a traffic accident.
Side airbags:
- They are designed to reduce the force of impact on the driver and front passenger in a side impact in a traffic accident.
- Airbags complement seat belts, not replace them. The constant and correct use of seat belts while the vehicle is in motion is strictly mandatory. In this case, the driver and front passenger should be at some distance from the steering wheel and dashboard (safety measures and rules for the use of belts are described in the section ("Seat belts").
- When the ignition key is turned to the ON position, the airbag warning lamp will come on and will go out after 7 seconds if the system is operating normally.
Carefully! (front passenger airbag)
The airbag will not normally inflate in a side impact, rear impact, rollover or moderate frontal impact. Therefore, to reduce the risk and severity of injury in all kinds of traffic accidents, and not just high-impact frontal collisions, you should always use seat belts.
Seat belts and airbags operate most effectively when the occupant's back is straight and snug against the seatback. The airbags deploy with a certain amount of force, so there is a risk of injury when the airbag deploys if you sit close to the airbag module or if you lean forward in an unnatural position.
Carefully! (for vehicles equipped with an airbag, front passenger safety)
Do not transport children in the front seat as shown in the illustrations.
Children can be seriously injured when an airbag deploys if they are not wearing seat belts or in child safety seats.
Do not install child restraints in the front seat with your back to the airbag module.
Carefully! (for vehicles equipped with side airbags)
Side airbags generally will not deploy in a frontal or rear impact, or in a minor side impact. Always wear your seat belts to reduce the risk of injury in an accident.
Seat belts and airbags operate most effectively when the occupant's back is straight and snug against the seatback. The airbags deploy with sufficient force, so do not place your hands, head, or other body parts near the side airbag module or the front seatback. It is not allowed to sit in the front seat with your arms and other parts of your body out of the window.
Do not sit in the back seat with your arms around the back of the front seat. Otherwise, if the side airbag deploys, the passenger may be injured. Pay special attention to children, who must be protected accordingly.
Do not use front seat covers. They can prevent the side airbags from deploying.
Airbag device
The vehicle can be equipped with airbags as follows (see pictures):
Type A
The vehicle is equipped with airbags for the driver, front passenger and side airbags.
Type B
The vehicle is equipped with driver and front passenger airbags.
Type C
The vehicle is equipped with a driver's airbag.
Driver and front passenger airbags (type B and C):
- The driver's airbag is located in the center of the steering wheel. The front passenger airbag is located at the top of the panel above the glove box. The airbags will deploy in both severe frontal collisions and other types of collisions if the force of the impact is comparable to that of a severe frontal collision. The airbags may not deploy if the force of the impact is not strong enough to deploy the airbags.
Side airbags (type A):
- The side airbags are located on the outer side of the front seats. The airbags will deploy in a severe side impact, but may also deploy in other types of impacts that are comparable to the impact force required to deploy the airbag.
- During airbag deployment (both front and side) there is a popping sound followed by an outburst of smoke. This smoke is harmless and does not indicate a fire, but should not be inhaled as it may cause irritation and throat spasms. After the airbags have been deployed, fresh air must be supplied.
- The airbags, acting in conjunction with the seat belts, significantly soften the blow to the face and chest of those sitting in the front seats, protecting them from serious injury in a collision. Airbags do not protect the lower body.
- When driving, seat belts must be used and the driver and front passenger must also sit at a certain distance from the respective airbag modules, since there is a risk of injury due to the fact that the airbags deploy quickly enough. Airbags deflate quickly after deployment.
CAREFULLY!
- Immediately after inflating, some suits of the airbag device become very hot. To avoid burns, do not touch them.
- It is not allowed to make any changes to the device or wiring of the airbag. Doing so may cause the airbag to deploy accidentally or fail.
- It is not allowed to make decorative finishing of the places adjacent to the modules of the air bags, for example, sheathing with a cloth of the zero wheel or the front panel. This could result in serious injury in the event of an accident.
- Do not attach or place any objects on the steering wheel and on the dashboard. When the airbag is inflated, such items may cause injury.
- Maintenance work near and in the air bag module, including the installation of any electrical equipment, may only be carried out by a Nissan dealer. It is not allowed to modify or disconnect the yellow wiring of the additional security system and use instrumentation when working on the airbag device that has not been certified and tested.
