Due to the complexity of the nature of the work and the need to use special equipment, it is best to entrust the maintenance of valves, their guide bushings and seats to car service personnel.
The car owner can perform procedures such as disassembling the head, initial cleaning and checking the condition of the valve train components. In this case, a fairly clear idea of the scope of work to be performed is usually formed and an approximate list of the necessary replacement components can be prepared. Then the head should be assembled and delivered to a car service workshop for professional servicing.
The workshop specialists will remove the valves and valve springs from the head and perform the necessary restoration repairs or replace worn components (valves, their seats, guide bushings, springs, spring plates and split lock crackers). The replacement of the oil-deflecting caps is mandatory. After assembling the components, the installation height of the valve springs will be checked. If necessary, specialists will perform a head machining in order to restore the flatness of its mating surfaces.
After professional repair of the head is completed, its condition usually corresponds to the condition of a new one. Before installing it on the engine, do not be lazy to thoroughly clean the head again, completely removing metal filings, traces of abrasive and other small production debris from all its cavities and channels. Blow out all channels and holes with compressed air (don't forget to wear safety glasses).
