Removal
- Remove the wheel.
- Remove the brake caliper together with the brake pad guide.
Note: The brake hose does not need to be disconnected from the caliper. In this case, hang the caliper on a wire so that the hose is not stretched. Do not press the brake pedal after removing the caliper, otherwise the piston will come out of the cylinder.
- Place alignment marks (1) on the brake disc and the wheel hub with the wheel bearing, and then remove the brake disc.
- Remove the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle.
Caution: Do not pull on the wheel speed sensor wiring harness.
- Remove the cotter pin and then unscrew the nut from the drive shaft, holding the hub from turning with the tool (Pr).
- If you don't have a hub locking device at hand, you can unscrew the nut as follows. Have your assistant press the brake pedal firmly and hold it in that position until you remove the nut.
- Loosen the nut (3) securing the ball joint pin (1) and disconnect the steering rod end from the steering knuckle using a puller (2).

Caution: To avoid damaging the ball stud, leave the nut on its threads.
- Loosen the ball joint pin nut of the control arm and separate the control arm from the steering knuckle using a puller.
- Using a tool, push the drive shaft end out of the hub. Use wire to tie the end of the drive shaft to the body.
- Loosen the nuts and remove the two bolts securing the steering knuckle to the suspension strut and remove the steering knuckle together with the hub.
Examination
- Check the hub for signs of excessive wear on the splines or cracks.
- Check the condition of the oil seal.
- Check the steering knuckle for cracks.
- Check the condition of the hub bearing.
- Check for play between the steering knuckle and the outer bearing race, or play in the inner bearing race. If play is detected, replace the wheel hub assembly with the bearing.
Installation
- Install the steering knuckle with the hub in the reverse order of removal. Use new shock absorber strut-to-steering knuckle mounting nuts.
- Tighten the drive shaft nut to a torque of 100-150 Nm, the remaining bolts and nuts to a torque of 50-70 Nm.
- Check the axial clearance of the hub bearing. It should not exceed 0.05 mm.
Caution: Always replace the differential side seal whenever the drive shaft is removed.
- When installing the brake disc on the wheel hub with the wheel bearing, align the installation marks.
