The anti-roll bar is attached to the wishbone via rubber-metal elements, and its middle part is connected to the body via rubber cushions.
The connection of the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle determines the camber of the front wheels. The longitudinal tilt angle of the steering axis is determined by the connection of the tie rod to the transverse lever.
The suspension design provides greater vehicle stability when braking on slippery roads. The MacPherson strut suspension is easy to manufacture because the tolerances for manufacturing components are quite large, it is lighter in weight than other suspension types, and takes up less space, which is very important when the engine is mounted transversely. However, it has certain disadvantages: in case of strong impacts, when driving on bad roads, the body at the suspension attachment points cracks. This reduces the vehicle's directional stability.
Please note: Due to the fact that the need for major repairs to the front suspension arises extremely rarely (when carrying out major repairs to the body after an accident), in the following chapters we describe a repair in which only faulty suspension components are removed, checked and replaced.
Main elements of the front suspension
1 - anti-roll bar clamp; 2 - anti-roll bar bushing; 3 - anti-roll bar; 4 - connecting rod; 5 - shock absorber strut assembly; 6 - steering knuckle; 7 - suspension strut; 8 - transverse suspension arm; 9 - front suspension beam; 10 - limit stop; 11 - damper; 12 - fairing.
